Growing up in Houston, Walter Topete feels incredibly fortunate to have snuck in a few transformative experiences outdoors at a young age. Said experiences completely shifted his trajectory and, (though he disappoints his parents every phone call), he couldn't be happier. 

Walter first climbed with some friends on a boulder field somewhere outside of Durango after a long week of chainsawing trees. He particularly appreciated that while he didn't make it up any climbs, that didn't seem to matter to anyone around him. 

He managed to stay out West. He worked jobs in field education and at ski resorts, and found his way to Oregon, where he lives with his wonderful partner Clare and very dramatic dog. He now works as a program assistant at a non-profit and, in his free time, enjoys wondering what to do, playing music, and planning when to pull that sourdough starter out of the freezer.
