Anne Johnston

Anne Johnston started climbing when she convinced her parents to let her have her eighth birthday party at the closest climbing gym, over an hour away. The sea-level town she grew up in in Connecticut didn’t offer much in terms of rock-climbing, so, in order to get familiar with ropes and harnesses, she spent her summers sailing and joined her local fire department.

Through her own experiences, Anne developed a strong belief in the type of learning and growth that can happen outside of a classroom, and, determined to share that discovery, she became a sailing instructor . . . then a lacrosse coach, a hiking guide and a ski instructor. She recently graduated from Fairfield University, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Education as a means to more deeply understand the ways that mental health, learning and development intersect—an understanding she’s stoked to bring to Brimstone.

With Covid-19 came the opportunity for Anne to head West to join her family in Hood River. These days, she reserves most of her free time for her pup, Thea—hiking with Thea, playing at the Spit with Thea, backcountry skiing Mt. Hood with Thea, eating pup cups at Mike's Ice Cream with Thea, and trying to teach Thea to bike with her, (any tips highly welcomed and appreciated). She’s also a kiteboarder in training--with an emphasis on the training.
