Brimstone

Code of Responsibility

  1. BEHAVE LIKE A DECENT HUMAN. To us, this means, (among other things), that you demonstrate respect and kindness to the people around you, regardless of skin tone, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, body type, physical ability or how hard someone climbs.

  2. DON’T TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY. Really. We’re in an 1897/1912 repurposed church pulling very hard on plastic holds bolted to plywood. This activity is inherently ridiculous.

  3. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY.

  4. NO RUNNING. Except on the treadmill.

  5. KEEP THE PADS CLEAN. This means no food, no beverages, no chewing gum, no anything-else-messy on the pads. No water bottles on the pads. (This is less about the mess and more because we don’t want anyone to fall on a rogue water bottle). If you must wear street shoes on the pads, please make sure they are spotless. Or just take them off.

  6. WEAR CLIMBING SHOES WHILE CLIMBING. i.e. No street shoes, bare feet, ski boots, soccer cleats, etc. on the wall.

  7. NO CLIMBING SHOES IN THE BATHROOMS.

  8. DOWNCLIMB WHEN POSSIBLE. Save your knees. And your back.

  9. TOPPING OUT IS ONLY PERMITTED ON THE PEBBLE (the shorter boulder in the NE room).

  10. DO NOT STAND OR WALK UNDER ANYONE WHO’S CLIMBING. They don’t want to fall on you. You don’t want to be fallen on.

  11. THE FIRST CLIMBER ON THE WALL HAS THE RIGHT OF WAY. Before you get on the wall, look to make sure your route of travel does not intersect with the route of travel of another climber. If it does, wait. If you do, nonetheless, find yourself at an impasse with another climber, if they got on the wall first, downclimb and allow them to finish their climb. If you don’t know who got on the wall first, see #1 and #2

  12. DON’T SPOT SOMEONE UNLESS THEY ASK.

  13. KEEP YOUR SHIRT ON. We have plenty of air conditioning. Let’s not make anyone else uncomfortable, please.

  14. KEEP YELLING TO A MINIMUM. There’s an echo.

  15. ABSOLUTELY NO CLIMBING, USE OF FITNESS EQUIPMENT, PARTICIPATION IN YOGA CLASSES--OR ANY OTHER ACTIVITIES OFFERED HERE--UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR OTHER DRUGS.

  16. WHEN IN DOUBT, SEE #1 & #2.
